The Victory in the Prestigious Competition for the Best Solution of an Office Building with a Restaurant, at Livu Square, in Old Riga
20.04.2015

For Vincents Architecture, the new year has begun with the winning in the prestigious competition of architectural ideas for construction of a new office building and a cafe in Zirgu street 14. This building will be located in the very heart of the Old Riga City – at Livu Square, which in terms of the urban planning is a very complex place. The competition jury stated that the proposal of Vincents Architecture with the geometric rhythm of the facade perfectly fits into the environment of Old Riga, as well as the proposal has the best architectural solution.

The construction of a new office building with a pavilion of a cafe is planned at Livu Square, which is a part of the territory of the historic centre of Riga. This project can be described as the modern dialogue with the diverse urban environment of Old Riga, and this project is fully consistent with the historical identity of the city development.

The volume of the construction of the office building has five floors, two of which are located in the mansard, and the accessory building of the café pavilion has one floor with a roof. At the first floor level in both construction sites, a restaurant is planned to be constructed, on the higher floors - office premises.

The proposed new office building meets the spatial shape, silhouette, eaves heightand ridge of the roof of the former historic building in the street Ķēniņu. At the same time, the building corresponds to the currently existing town-planning situation, according to which this building is the frontal part of the Līvu Square, thus creating a typical for the perimeter site development and the logical close of the city sectionbetween Zirgu street and Ķēniņu street.

At the heart of the planning there is a rational constructive scheme which allows the layout of the indoor premises of the building flexibly to adjust to different scenarios for the future use and for the future development.

On the basis of the composition of the facades, there is the representation of the strictly rhythmic planning and the dialogue with the surrounding buildings – with the peculiarities of the historic buildings and the traditional materials. The dialogue is expressed in the forms of neo-functionalism, with the dominance of the refined simplicity, restraint natural tones and high culture of the architectonic details.
