Interior Designer Maris Grodums
The building was built in the 30-ties of the 20th century by the publisher and owner of JSC “Rota” Fricis Ansons. Upon renovating the apartment, maintenance of the original and functional, as well as decorative materials as far as possible, such as oak parquet or outer door of the apartment was set forth as one of the most important tasks. The ornamental areas of the ceiling and tile stove have been renovated, as well. Almost all the doors have the original door handles which seem as manufactured nowadays according to the best Italian design traditions.
The largest changes have been made in the layout of the bathroom which has been expanded at the expense of the kitchen, as a result a window has appeared in the relaxation room as an important benefit. Making an additional door and a small corrdor at the bathroom ensures its convenient access from both bedrooms which were previously communicating. The Bulthaup furniture of the functional design have been built in the kitchen of the long shape along two walls, as well as a small counter at the opposite wall.
The dining room and living-room are connected with a newly-established aperture. The oak panelling has been maintained which passes through the entrance hall and living-room in the height of approximately 50 cm above the floor. The historic details maintained in the interior form an eclectic composition with the latest design objects, such as chairs designed by Marcel Breuer at the table of the dining room, shelf system designed by Patricia Urquiola in the living room or the group of soft sculptural furniture Grand Pappilio designed by Naoto Fukasawa.
